This five house development in Broome, like all of our social housing projects, focused on providing the occupants with comfortable, flexible living spaces. Working with the constraints of high site density, a modest budget and a prescriptive brief, we sought to deliver simple elegant homes that respond to their location and climate.

We prioritised capturing winds and maximised shady outdoor living space on this dense site. A long covered outdoor space next to each house extends from front to back forming a breeze corridor. Roof sheeting is removed in parts to allow garden areas to grow underneath. The main internal spaces all face these corridors forming a generous continuous living area. Strategically located screening drops down from deep eaves to maximise shading.
