These are a series of 5 single houses designed for the Housing Authority in Karratha. They have been designed to provide generous outdoor spaces to front and rear connect to the living areas inside the houses. The bedrooms and bathrooms have been arranged linearly down one side of the block, from the street at the front to the carport at the rear. This frees up the other side of the block for one long garden space. An open plan living area projects into this space, with a covered outdoor area to either side.

Constructed almost entirely of steel to withstand the harsh climate and regular cyclones, these houses are made to be durable and low maintenance. A standard brief set tight maximum floor areas, so we focused creating extra volume through raking ceilings and comfortably sized covered outdoor living areas.
