A long pavilion was added to the rear of this 110 year old Claremont house as part of extensive renovations. The original house had previously undergone a large addition that had added plenty of internal space but had left the house disconnected from a large backyard. A new living room, covered outdoor and open pergola now span the width of the block, connected to each other and the garden via large glazed doors. The new living room takes centre place, taking on the feel of an outdoor room, drawing the garden into the house.

Inside, walls were removed and a new sitting room created. The old kitchen was transformed and expanded to include a spacious scullery.  Two new bathrooms, a laundry and dressing room were created while outside a new guest / kids room was added in the rear garden and a new carport, fence and gates at the front. We sought to identify what worked and what didn't in the existing house, with an eye to keeping costs down by removing as little as we had to. The focus was on making several simple, clear interventions that worked with the existing house to create something new and whole. Check out the before photo at the bottom of the page.
